Say hello to Instagram Reels, the newest short-form video creator on the block! Similar to its competitor, Tik Tok, Reels allows Instagram users to “record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools.” Users can share these with their followers, or those with a public account can broadcast them to a wider audience.
What’s great about Instagram Reels is that creators or brands don’t need to build a new audience on a new platform. They can simply leverage their existing audience and reach to connect with their followers in a more engaging manner.
Let’s quickly go through how you can get started with Instagram Reels today!
How to Create an Instagram Reel
Creating an Instagram Reel is simple. Just swipe left to the Story feature, where you’ll see the option to go Live, create a Story, or make a Reel. Here, you can choose from a variety of different effects, filters, and audio options to create a video that you can post on your profile.

How to Watch a Reel
If you want to watch Instagram Reels from your favorite, or new, creators, you have two ways to do so. One, go to their profile and select the Reels icon, which looks like a square with a play button on it. This is where all their created Reels will show up. You can also visit your Explore page to see Reels from people you aren’t already following. According to Verge, Instagram is really looking at making a dedicated space for discovering new Reels, which shows their commitment towards taking over this space from TikTok.
